Securing access to Broadcast Power

Securing access to Broadcast Power

You can control access to Broadcast Power through adding and deleting authorized application users form the main user interface.
A user can be either an operating system domain user or an application user.

For domain users, single signon can be enabled and will remove the need for a login dialog box when launching Broadcast Power UI.

<addkey="Singlesignon"value="Yes"/>

For application users, the login dialog box is necessary to capture their identity and authorize access to Broadcast Power.

The administrator account uses the user name "Administrator" with a default password of "123".
It is highly recommended that you change the default passwords after initial setup to strong passwords. You may also create a new administrator user or change the administrator user name to a random name for even stronger security. This decision is left to the installer of the application.

Creating user accounts or Logins
To create a new user account, start Broadcast Power's UI and browse to the Configure menu and click on Users.

Start off by creating an employee or simply a contact.
Contacts can be accessed from the Employees tab by clicking on the button to the right of the the contact drop down box.

Employees as well as non-employee contacts can be granted a login name and password for access to Broadcast Power with any number of restriction on the functionality.

Case of a contact:
Click on the button to the right of the contact drop down box on the Employees tab.

Click on the New button to create a new contact and fill in the first name and the last name.
Click on Save to persist your work.

The new contact should now be added the Contacts list.

Now that's we've created a contact, close the Contacts dialog box and select the Logins tab to create a new login for the contact just created.

Click on the New button, then select the option Custom Users. Fill the details and from the Contact drop down box, select the newly created contact. Save your work when done by clicking on the Save button.

Note: If you don't see the newly created contact in the Contact drop down box, click on the box to the right of the contact drop down box and then close the Contacts dialog box straight after. This should refresh the drop down box with the latest list of contacts.

Now that we've created a login for the newly created contact, we have to assign permissions to that user. The easiest way is by adding the login to a group. The group should have login privileges to Broadcast Power; otherwise, the contact will not be able to login. An alternative is to assign permissions to the contact login from the Permission Assignment tab.

Let's try first to assign the contact a permission.
Click on the Permission Assignment tab and then select the Login permission from the drop down box. After you've selected the Login permission, check the box closes to the Contact in the users list. Click Save to persist your work.

To test what you've done so far, close Broadcast Power UI and start it again. When you get the login dialog box, enter contact in the user name field and enter the password which you would have set for the Contact Only contact when you created it.

This login will fail because of other permission requirements for the Broadcast Power UI to load properly for any user. The system will let you know which security permission is required by displaying its name.

To see what would happen if we added the Contact to the DJs group, go back to the Logins tab.
SelectContact from the users list and then click on the add group button.

Select DJs from the list and then click on OK.

Try to login again and you'll see that the login is successful this time.
